Giants and Us
The key concept behind the social network, They Made Me, is that each of us is mostly an amalgam of ideas and discoveries made by other people. Scientists, philosophers, writers and composers... these giants don't just tiptoe through our consciousness: they leave big traces. They shape our understanding of the world leading us to evolve into giants ourselves and influence the consciousness of future generations. They Made Me aims to structure this process and define the cultural and mental DNA of anyone who is interested.

In the last series
Georgiy Strakhov, the creator of the service, was one of the sponsors of the In the Coldproject. Instead of just sending us money and getting a package delivered to Hong Kong with a book and a pair of Jurab slippers knitted in Pamir, Georgiy asked if we would be interested in making the visual identity and UI/UX for They Made Me. Once again, we reaffirmed the fact that if a project is good enough, it is the source of a whole host of new interesting stories and it doesn't matter whether it makes us a profit or not.

Brand ID
On the goals' defining stage, it became clear the key concept was recursion and the Sierpinski triangle would serve as its overt graphic manifestation. We stand on the shoulders of giants who stand on the shoulders of other giants, who ... well, you get the picture.

Therefore, initially all our proposed graphics were aimed at forming dynamic structures. We also realised that the relationship between people and the giants is non-linear, and there are tons of parameters that must be considered when creating an easy-to-use and clear service. The imagery should not be static; it should change in line with real-time data (on-site user activity; time spent using the service; number of subscriptions, etc.).

"It so tempting to spit in a test tube and find out the source code of your genome. Why not go ahead and define your own cultural ties with the giants of this world?"
As well as the original colouring, the Brand ID's coloured elements can
vary depending on the task you need to complete.

User Experience
Beauty can't save the world if no one understands what is it for, and how easy and clear all this is to use. Therefore, as we developed the brand ID, we also focused on designing the service's user experience. First, together with our client we thought up the "rules of the game". Then, we had to whip the concept into shape, define clear user interaction rules and their role, and flesh out prototypes with intricate detail so it was possible to start the programming process.

"I remember coming down with a temperature right about the time when the project was in full swing. I dreamt about giant interfaces and there were all kinds of interesting and important things going on between them. When I woke up, I grabbed my laptop and started writing endless emails to Georgiy describing every important detail I'd seen that we needed to include in the service."
